Product Specs
The premiere of the Rhapsody for clarient and piano took place at a concert of the Societe Musicale Independante in the Salle Gaveau on 16 January 1911, with Paul Mimart taking the clarinet part. It was not until the summer of 1911 that Debussy produced the orchestral version. On 21 July he reported to Durand that he would proceed with the orchestration while vacationing in Houlgate.
The orchestral arrangement thus confirms the original version for piano rather than representing a reworking or expnsion of the piece. For the purposes of our edition, it was only necessary to observe a few subtleties in the execution of the clarinet part.
