Almost every classical concerto has a place where the orchestra falls silent and the soloist has to play an unaccompanied solo which is not provided by the composer but which should come from the player's own improvisation or composition talent.
Many soloists of our modern times are confronted with a real problem, since they do not know how to make their own adequate cadenzas and/ or lack the confidence to improvise or to compose at all.
With his wide knowledge of the various composition styles of the classical period Badura-Skoda decided to make his own cadenzas which adhere as much as possible to the classical style.
These can be useful to today's performer. He used as a guide the few examples by Haydn that are extant.
