What is Yamaha Silent Brass?

You want to play when and where you like, without being confined to a time or place… Now you can thanks to Yamaha’s next generation Silent Brass. The new Silent Brass system combines a free blowing Pickup Mute with the Personal Studio featuring Yamaha’s exclusive Brass Resonance Modeling. Used together, the two deliver the natural acoustic tone you hear when playing without a mute, making it feel as though you are playing mute free.

More Natural Sound

Brass Resonance Modeling is the key to the Silent Brass sound. New acoustic measurements for all significant instruments and extensive, in-depth discussions with a variety of musicians has allowed Yamaha’s new Silent Brass system to achieve the most realistic and natural sound possible. This system effectively cancels the characteristic muted sound and utilizing three simultaneous processes reproduces the open natural sound of the unmuted instrument.

Personal Studio

The STJ Personal Studio offers two modes. The Player mode allows the player to hear the natural sound of the instrument while the Audience mode delivers natural sound to the listener. In this mode the audience hears the instrument making it ideal for recording or online sessions. Control over reverb lets users recreate the feeling of space from small practice rooms to large halls.

The Pickup Mute

The Pickup Mute combines a high-performance mute with an internal microphone offering superior muting performance, excellent intonation over a wide pitch range and natural playability.

Yamaha Silent Brass systems are available for trumpet, cornet, trombone, flugelhorn, French horn, euphonium and tuba.
